Burton

When a Methodist Chapel was built at Burton in 1858, burials were made in the church yard. The first burial at Burton was that of George Diment, in December 1866. A school was opened in 1860 and conducted in the church. A new church was completed in 1915 and closed in 1950. Henry Walpole was the publican of the Bolivar Hotel at Burton from 1854-1866.

Burials behind the church continued until 1971 when Lydia Wright, aged 82 years was interred.

Below are SOME of the headstones of the Burton Cemetery. In an attempt to save as much space as possible and increase the speed of downloading, only part of the stone is displayed. Flinders Ranges Research has a full photograph of each of these, and many others as well.
