Morphett Vale Cemeteries

St Mary's is the oldest Catholic church in South Australia still in use. The Morphett Vale Pioneer Cemetery is the final resting place of many of the area's pioneers. Its earliest grave stone dates back to 1840. One of Morphett Vale's early parish priests, Fr Michael O'Brien, is buried near the front of the church. It was in this church that the excommunication of Saint Mary MacKillop was lifted in 1872. In the early 1970’s the Morphett Vale Catholic Parish built a new church which is called Mary Help of Christians. It has two chapels in its parish, the Cana Chapel at Happy Valley and the Mary MacKillop Chapel at Woodcroft.
