Wonoka Lone Graves


Below are the two headstones of the Wonoka lone graves. In an attempt to save as much space as possible and increase the speed of downloading, only part of the stone is displayed. Flinders Ranges Research has a full photograph of each of these, and many others as well.

The above grave is of Douglas Bruce who died from the effects
of his horse falling with him, March 31, 1876 aged 39 years.
This tomb is erected by sorrowing friends.

Robert Bruce was born in Surrey, England, in 1835. He arrived in South Australia in 1853. Five years later he was overseer at Arkaba Station, which was owned at that time by Frank Marchant
